Jordan Levine
Remediation
For this project, I was tasked to remediate my repurposed essay. In other words, I had to present the same argument to the same audience, but in a different medium.
I chose to make a documentary to investigate the notions of “being Jewish” by interviewing Jewish University of Michigan undergraduate students. I asked questions that pertained to how the students define their Jewish identity. I also asked what specific subgroups of the Jewish community exist here on campus and how they are identified.
As a means to build on my central argument in my repurposed piece, the main goal of these interviews was to demonstrate that many different classifications of "Jewish" exist and "being Jewish" can be interpreted in many different ways. In addition to the interview portion, I also included clips of Jewish stereotypes being portrayed in the media to illustrate how versatile the notion of “being Jewish” actually is.
This was my first time making a documentary and I can honestly say that I became way more tech-savvy through taking the gateway course. I hope you enjoy watching the final product!
